What this is
Add Product puts an item on the product list. If the type is sellable, it also appears on Sale New.
Before you start
Create a Category (and a Unit if you need one). Restaurants pick an Item Type. That type — not the category name — decides whether aPOS treats the row as something you buy or something you make.
Step-by-step
- Open Products → Add Product.
- Enter Product Name and Product Category. Brand, Product Code, and Manufacturer are optional.
- Retail: turn on Sold by weight for produce priced per kg.
- Restaurant: choose Retail Product or Finished Product. Turn Track physical stock? on only if you count this item.
- Set We keep stock in, opening quantity if you already have stock, and Low Stock Qty.
- Choose Select Vat and Vat Type (Exclusive or Inclusive).
- Prices:
- Retail Product (Coke can, mineral water): enter a real Purchase Price Exclusive / Inclusive, Profit Margin (%), and MRP.
- Finished Product (Babka Bun, latte): enter MRP. The form still asks for purchase prices — enter 0. Do not invent a cost. Food cost comes from the Recipe tab (quantities for one item).
- For the public menu or table QR, turn Available online on if guests should see this item. It is off by default — the till still shows it. See Sell products online.
- Optional photo, then save.
What happens after you save
The product is in All Product. Sellable types show on the till. Opening qty is posted as an audited opening if you typed one.
For a Finished Product, open Recipe and add ingredients for one sale. If the kitchen card makes 10, divide first — Recipe batch yield.
Example
Bottled water: Retail Product, track stock, unit pcs, MRP 8, GST 8% exclusive.
Babka Bun: Finished Product, MRP you charge the guest, purchase price 0, recipe 51 g flour / 10 g sugar / 0.15 g salt per bun.
